Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
As the preferred architectural firm for Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin (CHW), Zimmerman’s directive was to plan and design the NICU of the future. Our team collaboratively envisioned and planned a replacement NICU for CHW. After the initial visionary space plan and program were developed, Zimmerman continued evolving the project design. To maximize operational efficiencies within the academic medical center which it is a part of, Zimmerman and CHW planned the new center to be located adjacent to the proposed Froedtert Hospital Birth Center. Evidence Based Design research supported the goal of converting to private NICU rooms, and Zimmerman worked with CHW staff to adapt service delivery to support this goal. There will be 66 private NICU rooms, a human milk bank, and a variety of family support spaces. This unit will span three floor plates and over 60,000 square feet.
