The City of Middleton had a comprehensive master plan, which identified a new police station as a catalyst to ensure the future safety of its users. Zimmerman was hired to verify the existing plan and design the new Police Department and Municipal Court Facility. The primary goal for our team was to create a safe, efficient, high-quality, and cost-effective environment for the Police and community members using the facility.
The client emphasized quality design and materials, making the police station widely considered one of Wisconsin’s finest new public safety buildings. It has been a magnet for tours from other communities considering a new facility. The Middleton project is durable, flexible, adaptable and beautiful. A vast amount of walnut millwork detail, design, and custom stained-glass windows made by a local artist were incorporated to create a beautiful and unique space. Access to daylighting results in a productive and easily-supervised work environment.
Among the specialized spaces included are evidence management (lab, storage, staging); weapons maintenance; training (DAAT and classroom); garage (with direct access to evidence); operations (decontamination, duty bag storage, law enforcement lockers, and dictation rooms); investigations (soft interview; interrogation, case room, computer forensics); municipal court; communications and emergency operations.
