Bland Bekkedal Center for Hospice
Zimmerman was engaged by the client and their construction manager to provide plans and designs for a new, freestanding hospice care facility located in Northwestern, Wisconsin. The project was constructed in several phases and ultimately accommodate as many as 16 units. The center honors the late Dr. P.T. Bland of Westby and the late Eugene “Bud” Bekkedal of Viroqua. The men served on the Vernon Memorial Hospital Hospice Advisory Board and played a part in making the dream of a center of hospice care a reality. Phase 1 plan/design/construction provided the first 4 units. The single story wood-framed building has a home-like front door, living room, dining room, kitchen and screened-in porch. There are four bedrooms, each with its own shower and double doors to the patio. The new facility is located on a 6.3 acre parcel in Viroqua.
