Convent Hill / Convent Hill Gardens
This 10-story, high-rise building provides 120 safe, convenient and efficient apartments for low-income elderly residents. By incorporating the latest trend in long-term housing, the current residents are allowed “age in place” with dignity. The site is one of the first parcels to be developed in the city’s new Park East corridor. Stringent master planning guidelines dictate the design parameters around the site.
In response to these contextual issues, Zimmerman developed a compelling design that responds to the neighboring buildings and develops its own sanctuary for the residents. This mixed-use development includes retail shops, with its demands for increased pedestrian traffic and high visibility along Milwaukee Street. The primary is designed as a welcoming element with opportunities to participate in activities around the central hub.
