Madison Fire Station #13
Zimmerman Architectural Studios was engaged to provide design services for a new, free-standing fire station in a quickly growing neighborhood on Madison’s Northeast Side. Madison had established size, scope and program precedents while completing fire station #12 previously developed on the City’s West Side. Zimmerman Architectural Studios worked closely with the City of Madison’s management team, Madison Fire Department union representatives, commissioning agent and construction cost consultant to verify programmatic needs, develop architectural plans, engineer the building and site systems and generate cost estimates using an integrated project delivery methodology. The resulting building design is efficient, meets the user’s current needs and allows for growth internally as this facility is meant to last for generations. Numerous sustainable features within the building have resulted in a LEED-NC Gold certification for the building. The successful outcome was also recognized by the American Public Works Association at their spring conference as the “2015 – Project of the Year”.
