Olympia Brown Elementary School
Zimmerman provided architectural and engineering design services for a new free-standing 4K through 5th grade elementary school for the Racine Unified School District. At the science-focused Olympia Brown Elementary School students will receive hands-on learning and experience to better prepare them for careers of the future.
Building wings provide “schools within the school” grouped by age: 4K and Early Childhood, 5k and 1st, 2nd and 3rd, and 4th and 5th grades. These wings open onto a “Main Street” that links them to shared facilities for art and music, the library, administrative offices, and the gym and cafeteria, with clear sight lines for supervision. The gym and cafeteria, which also can be used independently on weekends and evenings, flank a shared stage, facilitating a variety of assembly activities.
