South Bend, IN – Fire Station
Zimmerman provided architectural planning and design services for this free-standing fire station as part of an overall police and fire services project for the City of South Bend. The original request was to renovate an existing combined police/fire building for the two departments. As the program evolved, it was determined that a single building for the two entities was not feasible due to site constraints. Subsequently the existing building was renovated exclusively as a police station, and this new fire station was simultaneously developed. The station has full sleeping quarters and seven apparatus bays.
