The West – Apartment Homes

Zimmerman teamed with a local developer to submit a proposal to the City of West Allis to develop several historically underutilized parcels.  The overall Six Points plan includes “The West” a 177 unit apartment complex which provides market rate housing for young professionals in the greater Milwaukee area who seek both a pace of life and cost alternative from existing inner city apartment inventory.

The live, work, play development also includes a 30,000 medical clinic (Advocate Aurora Six Points Clinic) and parcels for a mid-sized grocery and retail and restaurant opportunities.  The planned development follows millennial demographic desires for high levels of amenities in walkable neighborhoods.

The West is designed around an inner courtyard, which provides space for outdoor activities including turf volleyball and bocce ball.  The West is also supported by a below grade parking garage with 243 indoor and 59 surface parking stalls.  The unit mix includes: studios – 10%; one-bedrooms – 42%; two bedrooms– 37%; and three-bedrooms -10%.  All two bedroom units are designed as “perfect roommate units” with both occupants receiving equal private spaces (bed & bathroom) and sharing common living, dining and kitchen spaces.  Common amenities include:  a common area clubroom; sports pub; media room; fitness center, and a rooftop deck with outdoor kitchen area.  The West is also pet friendly and features a 3,000 s.f. on-site dog park.

The West’s architectural design represents a modern interpretation of the traditional industrial aesthetic commonly associated with West Allis.  Ample windows simultaneously soften the building’s exterior while providing exceptional daylight qualities to the residents of the complex.
