Waupun Memorial Medical Center
Operating out of facilities virtually unchanged since the construction of the building in 1950, Waupun hospital administration recognized the need for updated surgical suites. Commissioned to perform a study of the existing surgery department, Zimmerman developed several concepts for the renovation. Based upon the costs involved for renovation, disruption of the surgical program and the limitations on developing optimal surgery suite design due to existing column spacing and low floor to floor heights, Waupun Memorial decided to instead build an addition to provide state of the art surgical facilities.
To accommodate the growing surgical department, Zimmerman designed a 10,000 square foot, two story addition. The addition includes two 600 square foot and one 400 square foot operating rooms, an endoscopy suite, eleven private pre-op, post –op rooms, a four bed post-anesthesia care unit, a new Central Sterile suite, staff lounge and locker rooms and family waiting area. The lower level houses the mechanical room for the addition as well as shelled space for future programs.
