Zilber Family Hospice Center
The Visiting Nurses Association (VNA) of Wisconsin, having outgrown the existing seven-bed Milwaukee Hospice Residence, hired Zimmerman Architectural Studios, Inc. to analyze the feasibility of expanding their existing facility, a 150-year-old wood frame structure. Because of its age and construction type, the existing facility didn’t meet existing codes and couldn’t be certified by Medicare for complex symptom management. Without a viable option for expansion, VNA and Zimmerman began investigating opportunities associated with developing a new, expanded replacement facility. After careful analysis of a variety of hospice care centers, as well as a market study, Zimmerman began designing a new 18 bed inpatient residence. The new Zilber Family Hospice Center provides a viable solution for those who desire in-home hospice care in an environment where skilled care is available 24 hours a day. The home-like facility is designed to be warm and welcoming while providing a high level of patient and family privacy. The center also provides education space for VNA’s ongoing collaborations with Marquette University in the field of pain management and respite care.
